Orvis Johnson

Orvis Jerome Johnson "OJ", age 85, of Fertile, Minnesota passed away on Friday, December 1st at Rosewood on Broadway Nursing Home in Fargo, North Dakota. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 6th at 11:00 AM at Faaberg Lutheran Church in Rindahl, MN with Pastor Jeff McCracken officiating. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 5:00 to 7:00 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home in Erskine, MN, and for one hour before the funeral at the church. Interment will be at the church cemetery, and the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston, MN is in charge of the arrangements.Orvis Jerome Johnson was born on May 8th, 1921 to parents Gilbert and Ida (Refling) Johnson in Garden Township, rural Fertile, Polk County, Minnesota. He was baptized, confirmed, a choir member and a lifetime member of Faaberg Lutheran Church in Rindahl, Minnesota.He attended Willow Creek Country School. After finishing school Orvis farmed with his father and played clarinet in the Fertile Concert Band.On October 2, 1943, he married Olga Hagen. They lived on Orvis' home farmstead, rural Fertile. They continued to farm and Orvis also worked road construction as a heavy equipment operator until his retirement in 1980.Orvis enjoyed reading, playing his electric organ, hunting, ice fishing, snowmobiling and working in his shop. On Friday, December 1, 2006 Orvis passed away at the age of 85 years at Rosewood on Broadway Nursing Home in Fargo, North Dakota, where he had lived since April 13, 2006.He is survived by his wife, Olga of Fargo; three daughters, Faye and her husband Verdell Olson of Fertile, Kathleen and her husband Rick Stuhaug of Fertile, and Patricia and her husband Mark Polley of Winger, MN; seven grandchildren, Michelle (Olson) and her husband Dan O'shea, Chad Olson, Troy Olson and his wife Mary, JoDee (Olson) and her husband Travis Jensrud, Shawn Stuhaug and his wife Tanya, Nicole (Stuhaug) and her husband Nathan Mark, and Shannon Polley and her fiancé Josh Brevik; and twelve great grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Ralph.
