Richard (Rick) Keith Holmes, beloved father, beloved friend, Navy veteran, and cherished soul by all who knew him, who left us on September 18, 2024, at the age of 78. There will be no public service. Arrangements are with Carlin Family Funeral Service of Erskine and messages of condolence may be shared at www.carlinfuneral.com.
Rick was born on January 27, 1946 and grew up in Middle River, MN. He served four years in the US Navy during Vietnam. He was later married to Linda Marie Strandberg and was a loving father of their five children, Derek, Shannon, Amanda, Jessica, and Cameron. Rick’s unwavering love and support for them will continue to resonate in their hearts.
Though life presented its challenges, Rick remained a positive outlook on life and a constant source of encouragement for his children and others around him. His ability to foster a warm, welcoming environment and positive attitude, created his life to be filled with laughter, love, and countless unforgettable memories.
Rick was very close with his brothers, Larry, Steve, and Kirk, that unfortunately were taken from him and all who loved them, way too soon. He missed them every day that he survived their passing.
Rick also had a wide circle of friends drawn to his infectious spirit (what a hugger!) and sense of humor (what a prankster!). Whether hunting, fishing, golfing, attending Vikings or Twins games, lending a helping hand, or simply socializing, all who encountered him grew a love for him. His friendships were a testament to his loyalty and the genuine connections he forged throughout his life.
Among Rick’s passions included music and singing. He found great joy in a variety of music and shared this passion with his children, instilling in them a deep love for music. His vocal musical talent not only was passed on to his children, but also brought people together. Rick was requested to sing at many different social functions throughout his life and he received much joy in doing so.
Rick is survived by four of his five children, Shannon (spouse Alison), Amanda, Jessica (spouse John), and Cameron; eight grandchildren; his ex-wife, Linda; his sister-in-laws, Gail, Rose, Loye, and their children, his many nieces and nephews; and countless life-long friends who will miss his infectious laugh, sense of humor, and generous heart.
Rick is preceded in death by his first-born son, Derek; his three brothers, Larry, Steve, and Kirk; his parents, Squire and Donna Holmes (Schenkey), and many fellow friends and US Veterans.
Though he is no longer with us, Rick’s spirit will continue to shine brightly through the love he shared and the lives he touched. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
