Richard Tronerud

October 16, 1941 — March 23, 2013

Richard "Dick" Tronerud, age 71, of Bagley, MN, passed away on Saturday (March 23rd) at his home under the care of family, friends and Clearwater County Hospice. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday (March 27th) at Hope Lutheran Church in Fosston with the Rev. Paul Magelssen officiating. Interment will be in Hope Lutheran Cemetery in Fosston in the spring. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service on Tuesday (March 26th) at the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home in Fosston. There will also be reviewal for one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church. Arrangements are with the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston and messages of condolence may be sent at carlinhoialmen.com.Richard Evan Tronerud was born on October 16, 1941 in Fosston, Minnesota to parents Evon "Bud" and Maxine (Brekke) Tronerud. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He grew up in Fosston and graduated from Fosston High School in 1959.He worked on the family farm until attending the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks. He also served in the Air National Guard. He was united in marriage to Mary McDougall on September 10, 1966 at Hope Lutheran Church in Fosston. They lived in Grand Forks until he received his teaching degree, and moved to Bagley, Minnesota where they have lived until the present time. He received a Master's Degree in School Administration from Bemidji State University and later a sixth year in Administration from St. Cloud State University. He taught Speech and English in Fosston for 10 years and started in the Gonvick school system as a Principal in the fall of 1979 and retired in 2001.While teaching in Fosston he was voted as favorite teacher by the students and still receives calls, visits and cards from previous students. He taught students using creative methods-his radio occupations class being an example of teaching speech and public speaking in a fun and rewarding way. Students always came first during his career as he helped them succeed in any way possible.He enjoyed public speaking and gave many Memorial Day speeches. He gave lay sermons at church when asked and MC'd school programs.His favorite "hobby" was farming and he especially enjoyed visiting with other farmers and working with them when possible. No trip was complete without touring every machine lot on the way and frequently negotiating for a possible new tractor or piece of equipment. As a patient and loving grandfather, he took his three year old grandson on tractor rides-both enjoying their time together. Richard is survived by his wife, Mary; three children, Jason (Michelle) of Maple Grove, MN, Christopher of Plymouth, MN, and Anthony of Bagley, MN; two grandsons, Austin and Dylan; and one brother, Mark (Donna) of Dayton, OH.He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Stephen.Honorary Pallbearers will be Richard Hagen, Evalee Jansen, Dianne Godtland, Eileen Lien, Rick Lamon, and Vern Pfeifer.Active Pallbearers will be Robert Johnson, Keith Johnson, Tim Johnson, Maurice Borud, Kirt Abraham, and Bruce Hanson.
