Rodger Nystrom, age 82, of Buffalo, MN, and formerly of Fosston, passed away on October 9, 2019 at Lake Ridge Oasis in Buffalo after a courageous battle with Cardiac Parkinson’s and cancer. He graciously granted his daughter and two sisters the honor of being at his side. A Celebration of his life was held in October 2019 in Buffalo. A memorial graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 28th, at Mamre Cemetery, rural Fosston, with Pastor Seth Johnson officiating. All are welcome to attend. Local arrangements are with Carlin Family Funeral Service of Fosston and messages of condolence may be shared at www.carlinfuneral.com.
He was born September 11, 1937 in Fosston, Minnesota, the third child of Royal and Olive (Strande) Nystrom. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.
He worked his way up in the construction trades with a ‘get the job done’ approach, running some of the largest projects in the Twin Cities. Though he continued to say he wanted to do one more big job, his health prevented this from happening. He was most recently a driver for Morris of Buffalo.
Always punctual and dapper, Rodger was an accomplished gardener and could grow beautiful roses and had enormous vegetable gardens. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing with his last hunting trip four years ago to Wyoming with his daughter, son-in-law, and grandson. He always strived to be a good man and believed strongly in the Good Lord.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Royal and Olive; siblings, Keith, Phyllis, Richard, Kenneth, and Dorothy; and brother-in-law, Howard Blanchar.
Rodger is survived by his daughter, Taryn (Joe) Bullert; grandson, Michael Lehman; and great grandson, Levi Lehman; sister, Joanne Blanchar; sister-in-law, Carole Nystrom and brother-in-law, Merwyn Larsen; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
