Roger Tangen

July 5, 1930 — January 26, 2014

Roger Tangen, age 83, of Crookston, MN and formerly of Fosston, MN, passed away on Sunday (January 26th) at his daughter's home in Ellendale, MN. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday (February 7th) at Hope Lutheran Church in Fosston with the Rev. Paul Magelssen officiating. Military honors will be provided by the National Guard Honors Team. Interment will be in Poplar River Cemetery in the spring. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church. Arrangements are with the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston and messages of condolence may be sent at carlinhoialmen.com.Roger L. Tangen was born on July 5, 1930 in Fosston Minnesota to parents Edward and Clara (Bjornerud) Tangen. He graduated high school and enlisted in the Navy where he served in the Korean War. He married Thelma Lomen from Fosston on Oct 19, 1951 in Virginia and when he finished his term, they moved back to Minnesota and eventually settled in the Crookston area where they worked and raised 5 children. After their divorce, Roger moved to the Gentilly area where he lived until 1997 when he moved to Ellendale, Minnesota to live with his daughter due to health. He peacefully passed away in her home on January 26, 2014. He was an exceptional father, brother and friend. He will be missed greatly by all who knew him for his kind and generous heart and simple life.  He is survived by 4 of his 5 children; Scott (Denice) Tangen of Inver Grove Heights, MN, Gailene Murry of Reno, NV, Charlene Reyant of Ellendale, MN and Jolene Salonen of Modesto, CA; He has 8 grandchildren Jordan, Paige, Jared, Garrett, Parker, JeanSue, Brianna and Derek; Also 4 great-grandchildren Hailey, Aryanna, Jaxson and Jaycen.  Siblings, Marion Larson of Fosston, Elaine (Iver) Stone of Anoka, Glen (Ione) Tangen of Fosston; sisters-in-law, Vandla Tangen of Roseau; brother-in-law Charles Bergstrom of Roseau and several nieces and nephews; life-long friends Eugene and Jeanette Wavra. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Katie; and siblings Doris, Kenneth, Wilmer, Alice, Leslie, Orville and Marvis.
