Roger Vedbraaten, age 80, of Fosston, MN, passed away on Saturday, December 27th, at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 5th, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Fosston with Father Chuck Huck presiding. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Hansville Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church. Roger Charles Vedbraaten was born on January 23, 1945, in Fosston, Minnesota to parents Lawrence and Adele (Drellack) Vedbraaten. He grew up in Fosston and Oklee. In the tenth grade he started working hauling milk. He worked for LePier’s for 14 years and then Lenes Sand and Gravel, where he hauled material and worked on trucks until his retirement.
Roger was united in marriage to Edith Wold on June 5, 1981, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Fosston. To this union, two children were born, Erik and Sara. They lived and raised their family south of Fosston.
Roger loved hunting (especially deer), fishing, camping, old classic country music, watching westerns, hunting shows and especially military movies. He was a quiet and respectful man yet wasn’t afraid to do what’s right. From teaching his son all about hunting and his daughter all about fishing, Roger was a true big-hearted man. He was a hard worker and was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone. He will be dearly missed.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Edith, of Fosston; one son, Erik Vedbraaten of Newfolden, MN; daughter, Sara Vedbraaten of Red Lake Falls, MN; brother, Bill Vedbraaten of Gully/Trail, MN; three sisters-in-law, Karen Vedbraaten, Terry Vedbraaten, and Lolly Vedbraaten; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Mark, Ronnie and Jim; sisters-in-law, Linda and Renae; and nephew, Jesse Brekke.
