Rudolph Johnson, age 99, of rural Fosston, MN, passed away on Sunday, July 29th at Fair Meadow Nursing Home in Fertile, MN. Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 3rd at 11:00 AM at Concordia Lutheran Church in Fertile with Pastor Dan Watland officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour before the funeral at the church on Friday, and interment will be in South Side Cemetery, rural Fertile. The Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston is in charge of the arrangements.Rudolph Martin Johnson was born December 23, 1912 in Garfield Township, rural Fertile, MN to Carl and Nora (Rude) Johnson. Rudy attended grade school at District #72, near his home in rural Fertile. He served his country during WWII from 1942-1945, in the United States Army as a surgical technician. After his honorable discharge, Rudy returned home and worked with his brothers logging and operating a portable saw mill and working for area farmers.In 1948, Rudy and his brothers, Johnny and Olaf started farming in Gregory Township, east of Bejou, MN. He lived there with his brother, Johnny until he entered the Fair Meadow Nursing Home at Fertile in September 2007.Rudy and his brothers were known to be a one family softball team, and he enjoyed working in the woods and working with wood.He is a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and the Yggdrasil I.O.G.T. (International Organization of Good Templars), an organization to promote temperance, peace and brotherhood.On Sunday, July 29, 2012 Rudolph passed away at Fair Meadow Nursing Home at the age of 99 Years.He is survived by one brother, Kenneth (Verla) Johnson "the youngest" of Gary, MN; a special nephew, Mark (Shari) Johnson of Fosston, MN; and several other nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by eight brothers, Olaf, Albert, Alfred, Elmer, Hjalmer, Leonard, Walter and Johnny; and two special nieces, Debbie Roragen and Cathy Baumgartner.
