Shirley Larsen, age 81, formerly of rural Fosston, MN, passed away on Tuesday, November 6th, at Heritage Cottages in Park Rapids, MN. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 10th, at the Carlin Funeral Home in Fosston with the Rev. John Anderson officiating. Interment will be in Rosehill Cemetery, Fosston. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home. Shirley Ann Ford was born on May 23, 1937 in Ada, Minnesota to parents Raymond and Wilhelmina Pagel Ford. She grew up in Ada and graduated from Ada High School in 1955. She was married to Dean Larsen on June 19, 1955. After their marriage, they lived in the area before settling in Beaulieu Township between Mahnomen and Fosston in the late 1950's. Shirley worked at the Simplot potato plant and the locker in Fosston; she also was a dietary cook for over 30 years at the Johnson Rest Home in Fosston, the Fosston Hospital, and the Mahnomen Hospital. In addition, they had dairy cattle and raised hogs and poultry. Shirley decorated cakes for many years for birthdays, graduations and weddings. She enjoyed ceramics, traveling, reading novels and caring for her yard and flower beds. Most of all, she loved spending time with her grandchildren. She was a past member of First English Lutheran Church in Fosston and was active in the Heier Hobby Club for many years. Survivors include her three children, Randy (Nancy) Larsen of Fosston, Denise (Jim) Johnson of Mahnomen, MN, and Laurie Larsen (Henry "Jr." Treichel) St. Cloud, MN; seven grandchildren, Melissa, Dana, Crystal, Tiffany, Mitchel, BreeAnna, and BranDan; 12 great grandchildren; sisters, Valoris Larsen of Mahnomen and Betty Klev of Cohasset, MN; former husband of 59 years, Dean Larsen. Nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Delmer; and sister, Viola.
