Steve Sveningson, age 69, of Mentor, MN, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, October 23rd, at his home near Mentor. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 29th, at Faith Lutheran Church in Mentor with the Rev. Michael Sletto officiating. Interment will be in Rosehill Cemetery, rural Mentor. Family will greet friends for one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the church. Military honors will be provided by the National Guard Honors Team and Vanderwaal-Lusty American Legion Post #421 of Mentor. Steven Wayne Sveningson was born on September 13, 1950 in Fosston, Minnesota to parents Carl and Derva Schehr Sveningson. He was baptized and confirmed at Faith Lutheran Church in Mentor. He attended school in Mentor and graduated from Mentor High School in 1968. He was united in marriage to Kristie Lynn Suedell on December 17, 1970. After their marriage, they began their life in Grand Forks, North Dakota.Steve entered the United States Army and served two years, one in Vietnam. He was a Purple Heart and Bronze Star recipient. He returned home in July of 1972 and received his honorable discharge in July of 1976. Steve attended school at the University of Minnesota (Deaconess School of X-Ray) in Minneapolis, and he and Kristie resided in Grand Forks until they moved to Mentor in 2004.Steve spent his career in the field of Radiology. He worked at Deaconess Hospital in Grand Forks, Red River Imaging (which he helped develop), Altru Health (Director of Radiology), DMS Imaging, and Essentia Health in Fosston. He retired in 2012 but continued to do consulting work from home. He was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church, Vanderwaal-Lusty American Legion Post #421, and other volunteering within the area and community.At various points in his life, Steve liked spending time outdoors with his family, hunting and fishing and enjoying nature. In his retirement years, he enjoyed woodworking and carpentry. Most of all he loved spending time with his family and was especially enjoying time being a grandpa to Oliver and Henry.Steve passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, October 23, 2019 at his home on Cable Lake near Mentor at the age of 69 years.Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Kristie, of Mentor; two sons, Christopher of Fargo, ND and Casey (Jenie) of Devils Lake, ND; grandchildren, Oliver and Henry; five sisters, Cynthia Handyside of Crookston, MN, Sandra (JC) Kirkland of Jacksonville, FL, Peggy (David) Brodeur of Fargo, ND, Penny Sveningson of Crookston, MN, and Lori (David) Cyr of Grafton, ND; and one aunt, Clara Galland of Mentor. Nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Derva; his father and mother-in-law, Dewey and LaVerne Suedell; and other relatives.
