Wenonah Frisk, age 84, of McIntosh, MN passed away on Saturday, September 29th at First Care Hospital in Fosston, MN. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 3rd at 10:00 AM at Salem Lutheran Church in McIntosh with Rev. Aage Carlsen officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour before the funeral at the church, and interment will be at Salem Lutheran Cemetery in McIntosh. Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home serving McIntosh is in charge of the arrangements. Sympathy messages may be sent at www.carlinhoialmen.com.Wenonah Catherine DeFrang was born east of McIntosh, MN on April 2, 1923, the daughter of John and Lillian (Halvorson) DeFrang. Wenonah attended Fairview Rural School District #282 and graduated from McIntosh High School, Class of 1941. Education was very important to Wenonah, and upon graduating from high school she enrolled at Bemidji State College. Wenonah was also offered a fully paid 4-year college program at UCLA in California by her mother's cousin. Unfortunately, WWII was starting and other plans had to be made.Wenonah and her sister Winnie, worked as "Number please" telephone operators for two years in the McIntosh, Erskine, Fosston, and Clearbrook offices. In 1942, as the war progressed, Wenonah and Winnie went to California and worked for Eitel-McCullough Inc. making radio tubes for the United States Navy. While in California, Wenonah and Walfred Frisk were united in marriage on July 9, 1942 in the chapel on the army base at Fort Ord. Walfred was stationed at Fort Ord at the time. She returned to McIntosh in 1944 and worked at the Felix Café until Walfred returned in 1945. At that time they purchased their farm south of McIntosh. Wenonah went to work as a postal clerk in the McIntosh Post Office and worked there for 35 years until her retirement.Wenonah enjoyed flowers, especially irises, and had beautiful flower gardens at her farm home. She also liked to read, spending many hours with her "nose" in a book. Wenonah was also an excellent cook and did much baking in her later years. In 2001, Tiffany gave her a computer for Christmas and she became the "e-mail queen" with Tiffany & Jeff. They corresponded many times a day. Walfred & Wenonah enjoyed traveling with Wenonah's sister Winnie & Sydney. They took many trips together. The love of Wenonah's life was her grandchildren and her great grandchildren. She and Walfred never missed one concert, volleyball, basketball, or football game that Tiffany & Jeff participated in. She thought the world of them.Wenonah Catherine Frisk passed away early Saturday morning on September 29, 2007 at First Care Hospital in Fosston, MN at the age of 84 years, 5 months and 27 days.Survivors include her husband of 65 years Walfred; her daughter Candace and her husband Steven of McIntosh; one granddaughter Tiffany, Chris & Parker of Fargo, ND; one grandson Jeff and his wife Heidi, great granddaughter Mya Catherine of Mapleton, ND; one sister Patsy Garvel and her husband Frank of Uvalde, TX; one brother Derry and his wife Shirley of McIntosh; 7 nieces and nephews and many great nieces and great nephews.Wenonah is preceded in death by her parents; sister Winnie Klemmetson and brother-in-law Sydney Klemmetson; and one nephew.
