Wilfred Maruska

Wilfred Maruska, age 73 of Fosston, MN passed away unexpectedly on Monday, August 26th on his brother's farm south of Lengby, MN. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 31st at 10:00 AM at Hope Lutheran Church in Fosston with Rev. Timothy Lundeen officiating. Interment will be in Rosehill Cemetery, Fosston. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 6:30 PM with a 6:30 PM prayer service on Friday, August 30th at Hope Lutheran Church. There will also be reviewal for one hour prior to the funeral at the church on Saturday. Arrangements are with the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston. Messages of condolence may be sent to www.carlinhoialmen.com.Wilfred Lloyd Maruska was born on August 27, 1939 in Bemidji, MN to parents Gilbert and Rose (Fisher) Maruska. He grew up on the family farm near Pine Bend where he attended grade school. He then attended high school in Fosston, MN. He was a member of Hope Lutheran Church.After marrying Shirley Sovick on October 6, 1960, they lived on a farm near Lengby, MN for a short time, then moved to Fosston where they raised their six children. Wilfred worked construction until his retirement and since then has enjoyed driving truck for Handyside Gravel and helping his brother and nephew on their farms.Wilfred loved the farm and the outdoors. He spent winters trapping, ice fishing and snowmobiling. He especially loved deer hunting season which involved the hunt and retelling the stories during sausage making. He enjoyed traveling and took trips to Nevada, California and New York.On Monday, August 26, 2013 Wilfred passed away unexpectedly while working on his brother's farm south of Lengby. He was doing what he loved most, he was outdoors working. Wilfred was 73 years of age.Survivors include his son, Gary of Spencerport, NY; three daughters, Nancy (Harlan) Kirkeide of Thief River Falls, MN, Wendy (Randy) Lee of Erskine, MN, and Tammy (Joe) Schroeder of Woodbury, MN; grandchildren, Nathan (Jessie) Pederson, Brian Lee, Brady (Katie) Lee, Kendra (Casey) Hansen, Mitchell Vangsness, Jacob and Rebecca Schroeder and Fiona Maruska; great grandchildren, Chesney, McKenna and Aubrie Lee, and Kyla and Aiden Pederson; one brother, Anthony (Patty) Maruska of Lengby; two sisters, Margie Donnell of Thief River Falls and Blanche Blaser of Zimmerman, MN; and many other relatives.He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Shirley; two sons, Kevin and Jeff; one brother, Donald; and brother-in-law, Dick Donnell.
